Huckleberry Elling was born in Los Angeles in 1979. After graduating high school she was eager for life experience and traveled, mostly hitch hiking, for 6 years. She came to settle down in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts where she is happily raising her family.

In 2010 Huckleberry developed a new technique of crocheting fantastical, wearable masks on wire armatures. Quickly, she began to receive commissions from around the world. Over time she expanded beyond mask making, into creating installations and participating in artist residencies and festivals such as Saga Fest in Iceland in 2015 and the Arts for Change residency at Mass MoCA in 2016, resulting in an exhibition at the museum and a broadening of her artistic practice to include teaching.

Today, Huckleberry continues to crochet and also paint. Regardless the medium, she approaches most projects as a textile artist, layering rows of colors, as a meditation, always a little unsure what the project will look like until its done.
